ATTENTION LAND OWNERS

At the Grey Bruce Health Clinic open forum on Wind Turbines on October 1st, there was a young couple there who had signed wind turbine leases, believing that it was something that would help the environment, their community, and provide a supplemental income.  Instead they became sick, so sick that they had to abandon their farm and have now been living in a hotel room for the last 6 months, paid for by the Wind Turbine company, and under a gag order by the Wind Turbine company.  They came to this meeting to find help and a solution, but to no avail.

IF YOU ARE A LAND OWNER WHO HAS SIGNED A LEASE WITH A WIND TURBINE COMPANY:

1. Consult with a lawyer as soon as possible.

2. Do not be embarrassed.  Most land owners who sign leases are lead to believe that they are doing something to help the environment and their community.

3. Although your neighbours and community may blame you for "letting the wolf in the back door" and jeopardising their health, safety, land value, etc, they are also the people that can help you now.  Approach neighbours, let them know that you have mistakenly signed a lease and ask for help; in these situations communities and neighbours must come together and work together.

4. In these trying financial times, land-owners may have signed a lease for nothing else than the money.  Investigate alternative options, such as government grants, alternative crops, etc.

5.  If you have a neighbour who has signed a land lease, approach them and share with them how you feel regarding the subject.  They may not be aware of the implications of what they have done, or know the facts.  Invite them to visit this website, or even better, http://www.windconcernsontario.org/ for more information.
